Management cites safety amid further planned protests in central Paris, cancelling the final weekend for exhibiting galleries and visitors.

Art Basel will end its Paris art fair on Friday, October 23, two days early, cancelling its final weekend for exhibiting galleries and visitors. Management announced the decision in an October 22 email to VIP guests, according to The Art Newspaper.
The fair opened at the Grand Palais on Tuesday, October 20. The shortened run follows demonstrations across France that turned violent the previous weekend. Further protests are planned in central Paris over the coming weekend, The Art Newspaper reported.
In the email, co-signed by Art Basel Paris director Karim Crippa, management said the safety of everyone involved remained its highest priority. It said the decision had not been taken lightly and acknowledged the disruption to guests’ plans.
The revised closing time is 7pm on Friday, October 23. The fair will remain closed on Saturday, October 24, and Sunday, October 25.

The black, gold and green edition follows September’s sold-out preorders. Nintendo’s replenished launch-day stock also quickly sold out.
