West Indies won by eight wickets to lead the two-Test series 1–0, with Brandon King making a career-best unbeaten 81 and Jomel Warrican earning player-of-the-match honors with nine wickets.
West Indies beat Bangladesh by eight wickets on the fourth day of the first cricket Test at Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur. They reached 170–2 in 35.1 overs to complete their chase of 170. In cricket notation, that means 170 runs for two wickets lost, reached after 35 six-ball overs and one further ball.
The visitors had conceded a 27-run first-innings lead: Bangladesh made 272 and West Indies replied with 245. The match turned when Bangladesh collapsed to 79–6 by the end of the third day, leaving them ahead by 106 with only four wickets remaining.
Opener Brandon King finished with a career-best unbeaten 81 from 115 balls, hitting 10 fours and a six. John Campbell helped him build an opening partnership of 112 before Shoriful Islam bowled Campbell for 49 off 55 balls.
Rain first stopped the chase at 64 without loss after 14.1 overs. Following a delay of about an hour, the openers added another 23 before bad light and lightning caused a further 45-minute stoppage. Tagenarine Chanderpaul was the other batter dismissed; Kavem Hodge then helped King finish the chase.
Left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican, who turns the ball off the pitch, earned player-of-the-match honors with 9 wickets across Bangladesh’s two innings.

West Indies captain Roston Chase took 5–36 as Bangladesh were dismissed for 142 in their second innings. Nayeem Hasan provided the main resistance with 52 off 91 balls, his first Test half-century, before Chase dismissed him.
According to Al Jazeera, Chase said that West Indies remained determined to fight back after conceding the first-innings lead. He said the team wanted to win the series and improve its ranking.
Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto said his team had failed to execute its plans in batting, bowling and especially fielding. He defended the team’s preparation and intention but said it needed to improve in these conditions.
West Indies’ 1–0 lead means a win or draw in the second and final Test will secure the series. Bangladesh must win to draw it. That match begins in Sylhet on 5 November 2026.
