Bluesky says posts offering a fake government payment spread the attack, prompting temporary account suspensions while it works to restore access.

Bluesky says a phishing attack compromised more than 4,500 accounts and that it temporarily suspended the affected accounts, according to The Hacker News.
The attack spread through posts promoting a fake offer of a government payment, Bluesky said. Phishing uses deceptive messages to trick people into giving up sensitive information or account access. Bluesky described compromised user accounts, not a breach of the platform’s underlying infrastructure.
Bluesky said it was working with affected account owners to secure their accounts and restore access. The platform asked users whose accounts were suspended to contact it by email for help getting back into their accounts, The Hacker News reported.
