Artists David Brognon and Stéphanie Rollin have won France’s Prix Marcel Duchamp, which carries a €35,000 award for the winner, The Art Newspaper reported on 23 October. Their installation at the prize exhibition uses fairground coin-pusher machines filled with tokens marking periods of abstinence.
Launched in 2000, the prize is awarded annually to a visual artist of French nationality or residence. Shortlisted artists normally exhibit at the Centre Pompidou.
The installation is titled “5,376 years, 1,892 months, 1,110 days, 1,201 hours”. Its machines contain “sobriety tokens”, which support groups such as Alcoholics Anonymous award to mark milestones in abstinence.
In a statement, Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris director Fabrice Hergott said the prize recognised a body of work that gives form to the experience of addiction and private, inner resistance. He said the installation’s arrangement of fairground objects radically shifts the viewer’s perspective.
This edition’s exhibition has opened at the Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris because the Centre Pompidou is closed for the next four years, according to the 23 October report. The exhibition runs until 7 February 2027.

The black, gold and green edition follows September’s sold-out preorders. Nintendo’s replenished launch-day stock also quickly sold out.
