Capcom reports record first-half game sales and a 92.4% digital share
Older releases helped underpin the records, with Monster Hunter World reaching 30.83 million lifetime copies and Resident Evil 2 reaching 20.38 million.

Capcom recorded its highest-ever total game unit sales and catalog unit sales—sales of older releases—for a fiscal first half, IGN said on October 27, citing the company’s financial report. Digital purchases accounted for 92.4% of copies sold during the first half of its 2027 fiscal year.
The older games highlighted include Resident Evil 7, released in 2017; Monster Hunter World, released in 2018; and the Resident Evil 2 remake, released in 2019. IGN describes both total and catalog first-half sales as records but gives neither aggregate unit count.
IGN’s list pairs lifetime sales totals with reported first-half increases. Although it calls the list first-half best sellers, the entries follow lifetime totals, not sales during the reporting period. Resident Evil 4 Remake has the largest stated increase, rather than first-listed Monster Hunter World.
| Game | Lifetime total | First-half increase |
|---|---|---|
| Monster Hunter World | 30.83 | 1.17 |
| Resident Evil 2 | 20.38 |

The black, gold and green edition follows September’s sold-out preorders. Nintendo’s replenished launch-day stock also quickly sold out.

| 2.06 |
| Resident Evil 7 | 18.87 in the list | 1.47 in the list |
| Resident Evil 4 Remake | 17.5 | 3.54 |
| Resident Evil Village | 16.27 | 1.33 |
| Resident Evil 3 | 14.93 | 1.56 |
| Devil May Cry 5 | 14.78 | 1.83 |
| Resident Evil Requiem | 8.51 | 1.59 |
| Pragmata | 2.73 | Not stated |
| Onimusha: Way of the Sword | 1.78 | Not stated |
Two inconsistencies affect these figures. For Resident Evil 7, IGN’s prose gives 20.38 million lifetime copies and a 2.06 million increase, contradicting its list’s 18.87 million and 1.47 million. Neither pair can be treated as the resolved figure.
IGN also says Resident Evil 2 overtook Resident Evil 5 as the series’ best-selling game in July 2026 at 19.75 million copies. Its description of growth from that total to 20.38 million does not match the stated 2.06 million increase.
The newer releases—Resident Evil Requiem, Pragmata and Onimusha: Way of the Sword—have smaller lifetime totals than the older games listed above them. Those totals are not figures for copies sold during the first half alone.
The financial-report figures cited by IGN split digital sales between PC and consoles. Both percentages below are shares of all units sold, and together they make up the reported 92.4% digital share.
| Format | Share of all units sold |
|---|---|
| Digital PC | 57.1% |
| Digital console | 35.3% |
| Physical copies | 7.6% |
