Anthropic’s Claude Code version 2.1.311 lets developers remove remaining approval prompts for file-deletion commands through an optional setting, company technical staff member Daisy Hollman said. The Register quoted her social-media announcement in its October 27 report. The change gives users a way to remove protections that remain even in the tool’s existing permission-bypass mode.
The existing command-line flag --dangerously-skip-permissions enables bypassPermissions mode, which first appeared in version 1.0.18 on June 9, 2025. That mode generally allows commands without background safety checks, but some deletion operations still require approval.
Hollman said developers can remove those remaining prompts by setting CLAUDE_CODE_EVEN_MORE_DANGEROUSLY_SKIP_PERMISSIONS=1. This is an environment variable—a value set in the developer’s command-line shell—not a change to the default permission mode.
The remaining safeguards cover some operations using rm, which deletes files, and rmdir, which removes directories. Hollman gave rm -rf ~ as an example that the existing bypass still blocks. After readers questioned whether the announcement was genuine, she confirmed it:
The tilde (~) denotes the developer’s home directory, so the command could delete files there. The remaining prompt gives the developer a chance to withhold approval before it runs.
Not a joke!

Auto mode became the default in August. It generally allows commands while running background safety checks; bypassPermissions omits those checks. The new variable removes an additional approval step within bypass mode rather than switching users into that mode automatically.
Developers who leave the override unset retain the remaining deletion-command prompts. Those who enable it in bypassPermissions mode remove those prompts, although managed settings may still impose their own restrictions on what Claude Code can run.
