Developers can collect streaming data, manage it in a catalog and query it with Cloudflare or outside tools. Free transfers out of R2 do not eliminate connected-service or pipeline delivery charges.
Cloudflare moved its data platform from beta to general availability on October 1, 2026, renaming it Basin, The Register reported. Developers can use the platform to collect streaming data, organize it in a catalog and query it with Cloudflare’s tools or external software.
The platform’s zero-egress promise concerns data-transfer fees: Cloudflare says moving data directly out of its R2 storage is free. That does not make every connected service—or every step of loading data into R2—free.
The three components now have new names: Cloudflare Pipelines becomes Basin Pipelines, R2 Data Catalog becomes Basin Catalog, and R2 SQL becomes Basin SQL. Pipelines can load streaming data—data that arrives continuously—into Apache Iceberg or Parquet storage in R2. The catalog organizes stored data, while Basin SQL provides queries using SQL, a language for requesting and analyzing data.
Apache Iceberg supplies the open-standard basis for Cloudflare’s pitch against lock-in: developers need not rely exclusively on Cloudflare’s query tools to work with their stored data. The report lists DuckDB, PyIceberg, Snowflake, Spark, StarRocks and Trino as outside tools that can process it.
Cloudflare CTO Dane Knecht describes Basin as serverless analytics, meaning developers do not manage the groups of servers that run the service. His claim that Basin avoids unnecessary data movement is Cloudflare’s description of the platform, not an independent test reported by The Register.
Cloudflare also highlights a testimonial from Bobsled head of platform Julien Grobbelaar claiming production-grade reliability and a fraction of the cost thanks to zero egress fees. That is a customer claim selected by Cloudflare, not an independent cost or reliability finding. Free direct R2 transfers alone do not establish the total cost of loading and processing data with Basin.
The W27 keeps the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra’s core hardware, with dark-red or dark-blue finishes, golden accents and 16GB of working memory in both storage versions.
