Discord plans to make discussion previews and eligible public-channel messages accessible through web searches without an account, invitation or server membership. The company says the changes cover approximately 63,000 Discoverable Servers: publicly listed communities with at least 1,000 members.
Discord says many communities have moved from forums into its servers, leaving useful answers inaccessible to the wider internet. Some Server Web Pages already offer previews for large online games, as IGN described on October 27. The planned expansion excludes private servers, including private friend-group and guild communities, and direct messages.
Discord says changing a member’s message-sharing privacy setting affects future messages only. Messages already made public cannot be retracted through that setting, BleepingComputer said on October 28. This limit concerns the member’s own setting; administrators separately decide which channels share content.
Public channels in affected servers will have content sharing enabled by default. A member can exclude their own future messages even when a channel participates.

Turning off channel-content sharing does not prevent creation of the server’s public page. Discord says administrators who want to avoid that page must change the server type to private before November 16.
Discord says the member setting called Channel Messages will be off by default in the EU, UK, Canada, Brazil, Australia and South Korea because of legal restrictions. Members there must enable it before their messages can appear online. Elsewhere, it will be on unless members turn it off.
Users under 18 are excluded and cannot activate message sharing until they turn 18.
Rock Paper Shotgun said on October 27 that Discord’s existing policy prohibits superintelligence (SI) companies from training their models on users’ messages. Its writer questioned what safeguards would prevent those companies from scraping—automatically collecting—messages once they become public. That concern concerns possible collection despite the prohibition, not an announced change to the training policy.
Discord plans to create Server Web Pages for affected servers on November 16, 2026, unless administrators have already created them. The pages will summarize active discussions and be discoverable through Google searches, letting visitors preview a community before joining.
A gradual rollout planned from mid-December will add eligible channel messages to those pages, allowing answers to appear in web searches in members’ own words. Discord says messages posted before that release will be excluded. Usernames and avatars—the images attached to accounts—will not appear alongside shared messages.
