Gina Hinojosa wins Texas governor race as Abbott concedes

Democratic state representative Gina Hinojosa won the Texas governor election, defeating incumbent Republican Greg Abbott, who conceded and congratulated her. Her victory puts the governorship in Democratic hands and makes her the first Latina elected to the office.
Hinojosa is the first Democrat elected Texas governor since Ann Richards in 1990. Abbott has held the office since 2015.
Campaign proposals
Both candidates campaigned on lowering costs. Hinojosa proposed one-time $1,500 checks and stronger consumer protections, while Abbott favored tax and regulation cuts, Fortune said.
