Google and hardware maker XREAL launched AURA wired glasses on 28 October, opening orders in the US, Canada and South Korea from US$1,099. Two memory and storage configurations have introductory offers through December, with shipments planned for mid-November.
AURA uses Android XR, Google’s software platform for placing digital content in the wearer’s view. Transparent lenses keep the surroundings visible while app windows appear alongside them. At the same Android Dev Summit, Google moved its core XR development tools from testing into stable releases for production apps and opened Android Studio to third-party coding agents.
9to5Google said preorders opened on 28 October and detailed two configurations, each with an introductory discount through December 2026. RAM is the memory used while apps run; storage holds apps and files.
| RAM / storage | List price | Introductory price through December 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| 12GB / 256GB | $1,279 | $1,099 |
| 16GB / 512GB | $1,499 | $1,299 |

The W27 keeps the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra’s core hardware, with dark-red or dark-blue finishes, golden accents and 16GB of working memory in both storage versions.

XREAL supplies the glasses, Google supplies Android XR, and Qualcomm supplies the Snapdragon Reality Elite computing platform. Google says the glasses weigh under 95 grams because processing and the battery sit in a portable puck connected by cable. The transparent, dimmable lenses provide a 70-degree field of view.
AURA supports up to five app windows at once, The Decoder said. Google says users can resize and arrange windows, pair a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, or use the puck as a trackpad.
Google’s Wired Mirroring feature adds a laptop screen as a movable, resizable window beside Android XR apps. It requires a USB-C cable that supports video output, but no software installation.
Google says Gemini, its superintelligence (SI) assistant, can help with content across app windows, the mirrored laptop screen and the wearer’s surroundings. Users can ask it to rearrange windows or discuss what they are viewing. Sharing their view also lets Gemini highlight objects or screen content, a feature available at launch.
Google presents the display as both a workspace and an entertainment screen. Users can open Google Play apps, position streaming-video windows, or mirror games from a computer or handheld device. More than 150 apps are made specifically for XR.
Google released Android Studio Rabbit 2 as stable on 28 October. Its Bring Your Own Agent feature uses the Agent Client Protocol, a shared interface for connecting coding agents to development tools. It supports more than 40 compatible agents, including Anthropic’s Claude Agent, OpenAI’s Codex and Google Antigravity. These SI tools can inspect project code, use a simulated device and read system logs inside the development environment.
Other summit releases range from stable tools intended for production work to earlier alpha, beta and preview stages. They let developers connect app functions to agents, build agents that run on a device, or return interactive controls instead of text.
| Tools | Stage | What Google says they enable |
|---|---|---|
| Core Jetpack XR SDK libraries, Android XR emulators and Android XR Engine Hub | Stable | Production app interfaces, testing without physical glasses and development workflows. |
| AppFunctions | Beta | Expose app functions to on-device or system agents. |
| ML Kit Agentic API, powered by Gemini Nano 4 | Alpha | Run on-device agents, execute functions, retain conversation history and apply automatic safeguards. |
| Agent-to-UI for Jetpack Compose | Alpha | Build interactive agent replies from an app’s own interface components. |
| Connected Apps Platform | Preview | Connect app services to Gemini and Google Search through a developer preview program. |
Google also expanded Android CLI, its command-line development tool. Agents can render Jetpack Compose interface previews without starting a simulated device. Firebase-powered device streaming adds remote testing on physical devices; The New Stack said the android device remote command gives agents access to devices in Google’s lab.
A companion command, android signals, brings Android vitals and Firebase Crashlytics data into the terminal workflow. Agents can use that data to investigate crashes in released apps, events where an app stops responding, and memory problems.
LeakCanary integration helps identify memory leaks, where an app retains memory it no longer needs. In Google’s demonstration, Claude Code ran user tasks across several devices in parallel, examined memory snapshots, traced leaks to code, made fixes and reran the tests to check them.
Google says the tooling helped capable models complete memory-leak investigations nearly twice as fast while using up to 25% fewer tokens—the chunks of text a model processes. These are Google’s internal results, not independent benchmarks, and the company shared little detail about its measurements.
| Test | Reported result |
|---|---|
| Interface tasks using command-line Compose previews | Completed 77% faster, using up to three times fewer tokens. |
| Finding and fixing memory leaks with LeakCanary, using Claude Opus 5.5 in an A/B comparison | Nearly twice as fast, with about 25% lower token use. |
AURA orders are restricted to users aged 18 or older. Google says Japan orders will open on 2 November, completing the four initial markets. Shipments are planned to begin in mid-November, and 9to5Google said a broader rollout is planned for 2027.

The satellite operator expects access to more than twice OneWeb’s current bandwidth in return for spending in 2027–2034, with initial IRIS² services expected from 2030.

The black, gold and green edition follows September’s sold-out preorders. Nintendo’s replenished launch-day stock also quickly sold out.
