The Orphans, the fourth series from HBO Max and 3Cat’s collaboration, has begun filming in Barcelona, Variety said in its October 26 report. The shoot is scheduled to move next to Tenerife and Paris.
The partnership brings together streaming platform HBO Max and Catalan public media group 3Cat. It has already produced three series rooted in Catalan culture.
The series, also titled Los Huerfanos, is described as inspired by true events. It begins with children abandoned at a train station and explores a family’s past and present.
Miguel Ibáñez created the series, with Patricia Font directing for NewCo Audiovisual. The cast includes Iria del Río, Enric Auquer, Mima Riera and Carlos Cuevas.
Oriol Sala Palao, 3Cat’s head of fiction and film, said the partners decide which platform releases each series first on a project-by-project basis. For The Orphans, the plan is a 2027 premiere on HBO Max, followed by a release on 3Cat.

The black, gold and green edition follows September’s sold-out preorders. Nintendo’s replenished launch-day stock also quickly sold out.
