IBM Classic Cloud customers face restrictions on creating and managing resources during emergency maintenance, The Register reported on October 22. The outlet estimated that those restrictions would last at least 16 hours.
Classic Cloud is the service IBM acquired in 2013. The affected functions include provisioning—setting up new cloud resources—and managing resources in that environment.
The Register also reported a 90-minute period when IBM Cloud customers could not create new resources or virtual private clouds, which are isolated network environments within a cloud service. It described the disruption as a severity-one incident.
The reason for the emergency maintenance remains unconfirmed. The Register said it had asked IBM whether the work involved fixing recently announced critical bugs in PHP; IBM had not confirmed a connection.
IBM told Classic Cloud customers it would restore new provisioning and resource management by 08:00 UTC on October 22. That remains a restoration target, not confirmed recovery.
