Kacey Musgraves announced on October 22 that Middle of Nowhere Vol. 2: Tex Mex Tapes is scheduled for release on January 15 through Lost Highway Records. The 16-song album will contain 11 new songs and five covers, with four tracks sung entirely in Spanish, Billboard reported.
The project follows Middle of Nowhere, released in May. According to Billboard, that album already incorporated elements of three musical styles—Tejano, norteño and cumbia—into some songs. The publication describes the follow-up as exploring the musical ties between Texas and Mexico more deeply while continuing its predecessor’s themes of solitude, contentment and self-assurance.
The four entirely Spanish-language tracks include a new version of “Uncertain, TX,” featuring Intocable, a group that plays Tejano and norteño music. The announced album also includes Musgraves’s cover of Freddy Fender’s 1974 hit “Before the Next Teardrop Falls.”
The next scheduled releases are “Weekend in Texas” and “Mi Tesoro.” Billboard’s October 22 report said the two advance songs were due that night, ahead of the album’s January 15 release.

The black, gold and green edition follows September’s sold-out preorders. Nintendo’s replenished launch-day stock also quickly sold out.
