Lionsgate and Steven Paul’s SP Media have announced plans for a jointly owned business to invest in new businesses and independent film production. Lionsgate will hold a majority stake and control the venture’s operations.
The agreement follows Lionsgate’s formal separation from Starz in 2025. Lionsgate now operates as a standalone film and television studio.
The companies did not disclose financial terms or name additional financial backers. The Hollywood Reporter, citing an unnamed insider, said Paul was understood to be leading an investment of around $100 million to help expand Lionsgate’s business.
Under the production arrangement, SP Media will make independent feature films and Lionsgate will distribute them. This gives SP Media an outlet for its films while adding new titles to Lionsgate’s film business.
