The live-action film of Mashle: Magic and Muscles is scheduled to open on 19 March 2027. The film’s official account announced the date through a teaser visual, as Anime News Network said.
The film adapts the manga written and illustrated by Hajime Kōmoto. Its original run in Japan began in January 2020 and ended in July 2023. Publisher Shueisha released the last of its 18 collected volumes in October 2023.
Muscles in a world of magic
Shueisha describes the story as a fantasy set in a world where magic is used for everything. Its central character cannot use magic and spends his time training his body. When magic users threaten his life, he must rely on his strength.
By March 2024, the manga had more than 10 million copies in circulation—a circulation figure rather than a reported sales total.
The story has already reached television and the stage. The anime adaptation’s first season premiered in Japan in April 2023, followed by a second season in January 2024. There have also been 2 stage adaptations.
Who is making the film
Warner Brothers and Fuji TV are overseeing the live-action project, while CREDEUS is producing it. TOHO will handle distribution for the announced opening.
