Actor Mia McKenna-Bruce has joined Amazon MGM’s racing romance Throttled as Sophie Mitchell, the daughter of a powerful figure in the racing world. Deadline confirmed the casting on October 26.
Amazon MGM announced its acquisition of the project for streaming earlier in October. The film adapts the first book in Lauren Asher’s Dirty Air series, with Nicole Wallace, Josh Heuston and Julio Peña already announced in the cast.
McKenna-Bruce is a BAFTA Rising Star Award winner who starred in the coming-of-age drama How to Have Sex.
Wallace plays Maya Alatorre, an ambitious woman who joins her older brother, played by Peña, on the racing circuit. Maya enters a forbidden romance with Noah Slade, played by Heuston. Noah is both her brother’s teammate and his fiercest racing rival.
McKenna-Bruce’s character has a larger role elsewhere in Asher’s series: Sophie leads Collided, the second book.
Nzingha Stewart is directing Throttled from a screenplay adapted by Melissa Osborne.

The black, gold and green edition follows September’s sold-out preorders. Nintendo’s replenished launch-day stock also quickly sold out.
