Nvidia Vera beats dual Xeon 6980P by over 2x in local bandwidth test

Oracle offers standalone Vera on its cloud, but the published test used a local server. Tom’s Hardware plans to publish its full results and test setup in a forthcoming review.

Tom’s Hardware measured more than twice the STREAM triad memory bandwidth on a local server with Nvidia’s Vera CPU than on a system with two Intel Xeon 6980P CPUs. STREAM triad tests how quickly a system moves data through memory. The result measures memory bandwidth, not overall computing performance.
The comparison matters now because Nvidia and Oracle announced on Tuesday that Vera CPUs and Vera Rubin NVL72 racks are generally available on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) Superclusters. Customers can get standalone Vera instances there, but the published test did not run on OCI.
Nvidia unveiled Vera in March. Tom’s Hardware said Google Cloud announced general availability for Vera Rubin last week, before Oracle’s Tuesday announcement. Oracle’s offering also makes the Vera CPU available as a standalone instance, rather than only as part of a Vera Rubin rack.
Analysis
The local-server result shows an advantage for Vera on this memory-bandwidth test against that dual Xeon 6 system. It does not establish how fast an OCI Vera instance would run for an Oracle customer, or how the two systems compare across other work.
The published figures are a preview, not the completed review. Tom’s Hardware says it will publish full results shortly and include technical details of its test setup in the forthcoming review; it has not given a publication date. Assessing the cloud offering itself would require tests on OCI Vera instances using workloads relevant to those customers.

The W27 keeps the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra’s core hardware, with dark-red or dark-blue finishes, golden accents and 16GB of working memory in both storage versions.
