Overwatch CEO Arjun Bisen says one attacker launched more than 100 campaigns in about five days, compromised 27 payment sites and skimmed card details as customers paid.

An attacker stole details for more than 600,000 credit cards, Overwatch cofounder and CEO Arjun Bisen estimated in Fortune’s October 26 Term Sheet newsletter, the sole source for this account.
Overwatch is a New York-based startup that detects digital threats. Bisen said one attacker launched more than 100 attack campaigns in about five days and compromised 27 payment sites.
The attacker then collected credit-card details as customers used the compromised sites, Bisen said. This practice is called skimming: taking card information during a payment. His estimate concerns the number of cards whose details were captured, not the number of people affected.
Bisen did not date the campaigns or identify the affected payment sites in the newsletter. His account has not been independently verified.
