The Pokémon Company plans to close the Switch and mobile versions. Players who download the Library data before the deadline can retain records and practice rounds, but not online matches.
The Pokémon Company plans to end Pokémon Unite’s online service on March 23, 2027, on Nintendo Switch, Android and iOS, under its announcement covered by GamesIndustry.biz. The company says players must download Library data before closure to retain access afterward, and that data generally cannot be transferred to another device.
Developed by TiMi Studio Group, the free-to-play team battle game launched in summer 2021. The Pokémon Company has not disclosed why it is ending support.
Engadget gives the shutdown time as March 23, 2027, at 00:00 UTC, equivalent to March 22 at 8 p.m. ET. That places the shutdown at the same time as the Library download deadline.
The Pokémon Company says players must log in and complete the download before service ends. The data stays on the device used for the download and “generally cannot be transferred” to another device, the company said through Engadget. Players who miss the deadline will not be able to use the Library afterward.
Sales of Gems, the game’s purchasable currency, and new Unite Club memberships have stopped, along with automatic renewals. Existing members retain their benefits until their memberships expire. Purchased Gems can still be used until shutdown.
Polygon said unused purchased Gems will be refunded once service ends.
The black, gold and green edition follows September’s sold-out preorders. Nintendo’s replenished launch-day stock also quickly sold out.

With the required data downloaded, the Library will preserve access to statistics, achievements, certain unlocked content and offline practice rounds, as IGN said. Online matches will no longer be available.
A final update is scheduled for November 12, 2026. It will introduce the Library and a special event offering another chance to collect previously missed unlockable content, including licenses and Holowear cosmetics. The in-game shop will also offer discounted items.
The game’s final competition, Pokémon UNITE Aeos Crown 2027 in Tokyo, remains scheduled before the shutdown, with qualifying tournaments starting in December 2026.
