Australia’s New South Wales Supreme Court awarded actor and director Rebel Wilson A$359,000 plus interest on Friday, 23 October, in her dispute with the co-producers of The Deb, the Guardian reported.
The musical comedy was Wilson’s directing debut; she also co-produced and starred in it. Her co-producers had alleged that her online statements caused their company financial and reputational damage in an attempt to devalue the film so she could buy it from them.
Justice Elisabeth Peden awarded the three co-producers A$10 in damages and otherwise dismissed their summons—the case they had brought against Wilson. Wilson had denied their allegations and brought a counterclaim.
| Recipient | Award |
|---|---|
| Amanda Ghost, Gregor Cameron and Vince Holden, jointly | A$10 |
| Rebel Wilson | A$359,000 plus interest |
Wilson’s counterclaim alleged misconduct by the producers, including theft, bullying and sexual misconduct. Those are Wilson’s allegations, not findings established by the damages awards.
This production dispute is separate from a federal court defamation case brought by The Deb’s lead actor earlier in 2026. In that case, the court found that none of Wilson’s posts at issue were defamatory.
