Russia’s Defence Ministry says it downed 616 drones overnight
The official claim covers October 23–24, while separate, uncorroborated accounts describe a chemical-plant fire, evacuations and electricity cuts.

Russia’s Defence Ministry said it shot down 616 drones between the evening of 23 October and the morning of 24 October, 2026. BBC also reported electricity and water restrictions in Russian-annexed Crimea following strike-related power cuts, citing the region’s Moscow-backed governor.
BBC reported the ministry’s account that the drones were Ukrainian fixed-wing aircraft—aircraft with wings rather than helicopter-style rotors. The figure of 616 remains the ministry’s claim, not an independently verified total.
Sergey Aksyonov, Crimea’s Moscow-backed governor, said restrictions on electricity and water had been imposed because a drone strike caused power cuts, BBC reported on 24 October.
BBC also reported Ukrainian authorities’ claims that they had struck a missile-component manufacturer, a chemical plant and an aircraft at a military airfield inside Russia during a 24-hour period. These are Ukrainian strike claims, not independently verified findings of damage.
In its 24 October account, Civic.am, a news site close to Armenia’s governing Civil Contract party, cited Telegram monitoring channels reporting a strike-related fire at the Tolyattikauchuk chemical complex in Tolyatti. Civil Contract supports the peace agenda, a peace treaty and normalisation of relations with Azerbaijan and Turkey.
Civic.am said the complex’s products are also used to make rocket fuel. It relayed residents’ reports that AvtoVAZ employees had been evacuated and separately reported temporary restrictions at Samara airport. The fire and evacuation accounts remain uncorroborated.

Civic.am reported that drone debris damaged the Rostovpassazhirtrans building and 21 buses in Rostov. That damage account remains uncorroborated.
The outlet attributed widespread outages in Crimea and Sevastopol, and cuts in several settlements in Krasnodar Krai and Rostov region, to the drone attack and power-system failures. It said electricity was later restored in Crimea and Sevastopol.
