The Armenian Mirror-Spectator reports that the performer and scholar, honoured by Armenia in 2016, died at his New York home on October 21.

Pianist and music scholar Şahan Arzruni died at his New York City home in the early hours of October 21, aged 83, the Armenian Mirror-Spectator reported on October 22. His work combined an international performing career with recordings, research and teaching devoted to Armenian music.
Arzruni left Istanbul in 1964 to attend the Juilliard School in New York. The city became his home for the next six decades as he built his career as a performer and scholar, according to the obituary.
The obituary credits Arzruni with recording a three-record anthology of Armenian piano music and co-producing an eight-disc set of instrumental and Armenian vocal music. His scholarship also reached readers through books, academic journals and contributions to editions of The New Grove Dictionary and the Dictionary of the Middle Ages.
His teaching took him beyond concert halls. Beginning in 2017, the Fund for Armenian Relief arranged visits to more than 50 locations across Armenia, where Arzruni gave master classes and performances at music and art schools for students and the public, the obituary reports.
In 2016, Armenia’s president awarded him the Movses Khorenatsi Medal for exceptional achievement in cultural development.
Arzruni’s international appearances included a performance at the White House and command performances in the United Kingdom, Denmark, Sweden and Iceland, according to the obituary. He also recorded albums of twentieth-century works intended for younger pianists and spent five years hosting a New York radio programme about teaching piano.

The black, gold and green edition follows September’s sold-out preorders. Nintendo’s replenished launch-day stock also quickly sold out.
