World Para Armwrestling Championships: Stepanyan says he won 80 kg title

Armenia’s Sargis Stepanyan says he won the seated up-to-80 kg title at the 28th World Para Armwrestling Championships in New Delhi, India. In a Facebook statement relayed by Civic.am, he described the victory as bringing his total to 5 world championship titles.

Stepanyan celebrated Armenia’s anthem being played and its flag being raised at the podium. He also dedicated the victory to his father for his birthday.

A title after Albena

Stepanyan’s previous world title came in Albena, Bulgaria, on 16 September 2025. In a statement covered by Armenia Today, he said he won the up-to-80 kg category at the 27th World Para Armwrestling Championships and called it his fourth world title.

The same report identified Stepanyan as a reserve lieutenant colonel in Armenia’s armed forces. He lost 3 limbs in 2014 while evacuating a wounded soldier from a neutral zone.

The World Armwrestling Federation scheduled the combined world armwrestling and para-armwrestling championships for 26 October–7 November 2026. The People’s Armwrestling Federation of India is hosting the event, whose scheduled conclusion remains ahead.
