SmileBasic 4, the software required for the demonstration, has been delisted worldwide. Researcher Sammy Hajhamid says the limited access enables unofficial software, game modifications and save-file backups.
Security researcher Sammy Hajhamid, known online as Pepsipu, has demonstrated a software-only partial jailbreak of Nintendo’s Switch 2—a way around some restrictions on what software the console can run. Ars Technica reported on October 22 that it worked on firmware 23.0.1, the latest version of the console’s system software at the time.
The method relies on the original Switch edition of SmileBasic 4, a programming environment that runs users’ programs. Ars Technica reported that SmileBasic 4 had already been delisted from the Switch eShop worldwide, limiting access for owners who had not previously downloaded it.
Hajhamid says the access allows homebrew—unofficial software made to run on the console—as well as examining and modifying Switch 2 games and copying save files off the device. He demonstrated modified characters in Mario Kart World as proof of the exploit.
The access is confined to “userland,” a restricted part of the system where applications run. It does not reach the kernel, the operating system’s core, so it does not give developers full control of the hardware. By comparison, the original Switch exploit disclosed in 2018 required a hardware redesign to protect future consoles.
Alongside the previously downloaded software, the method requires a macOS or Linux computer on the same network as the console. That dependence on a computer makes it a “tethered” exploit rather than a standalone console modification.
A Japanese SmileBasic demo remained available when Ars Technica published its report. Whether that demo can support the same exploit remains uncertain.
The W27 keeps the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra’s core hardware, with dark-red or dark-blue finishes, golden accents and 16GB of working memory in both storage versions.

Ars Technica predicted that an upcoming firmware release would likely close this vulnerability; it did not report an announced fix. The report also said future firmware updates would be required to keep access to many Nintendo services and future game releases, making those updates consequential for owners using the exploit.
The satellite operator expects access to more than twice OneWeb’s current bandwidth in return for spending in 2027–2034, with initial IRIS² services expected from 2030.
