Only the supporting piers survive from the 10th-century Silk Road bridge on Armenia’s border. The minister says the contract completes the tender process for its reconstruction.
Türkiye signed a contract on September 28 to reconstruct Ani Bridge on its border with Armenia, Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu said. His written statement was covered by Türkiye Today and carried by Public Radio of Armenia on October 26.
The signing follows a protocol agreed in Yerevan on May 4 that set out the reconstruction’s scope and method. Uraloglu said the General Directorate of Highways held the tender on September 16, and the contract completed that process of awarding the work.
The development is a contract for reconstruction, not a completed restoration or an opened border crossing. Uraloglu did not specify a completion or reopening date.
The bridge dates to the 10th century and formed part of the Silk Road. Only remains of its piers—the supports that held it up—survive. Uraloglu said the Ani archaeological site, including the bridge, entered UNESCO’s World Heritage List in 2016.
Uraloglu said the reconstruction aims to preserve the bridge’s cultural heritage for future generations. A joint Türkiye–Armenia commission will carry out the restoration, with Türkiye’s Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure and its General Directorate of Highways taking part.
The black, gold and green edition follows September’s sold-out preorders. Nintendo’s replenished launch-day stock also quickly sold out.
