Uber says it is extending a 1,000-person pilot across its global workforce, giving teams room to test the chatbot in their daily work.

Uber says it has expanded access to ChatGPT Work to its roughly 30,000-person global workforce, TechCrunch reported on October 22. The expansion of its partnership with OpenAI takes the workplace chatbot beyond a 1,000-employee pilot earlier in 2026.
ChatGPT Work was introduced in July for corporate teams to use on workplace tasks. Uber’s rollout makes it available across the company; access does not mean every employee actively uses it.
The pilot included finance, operations and product teams. About 80% of early adopters were not engineers, Sumanth Sukumar, Uber’s vice president of engineering, told TechCrunch.
Sukumar said employees used the tool to analyse operational data for trends and recommendations, adapt training materials for different markets and languages, and build personalised interactive dashboards to manage daily work. These are Uber’s accounts of how employees used the chatbot, rather than measured productivity results.
Sukumar said Uber’s approach is to give teams access to AI tools and room to experiment. Earlier in 2026, the company paired 30 AI engineers with teams across Uber and gave them two weeks to automate key parts of their jobs, he said. Uber also said OpenAI worked closely with it to integrate the chatbot.
Uber has not disclosed its spending on the rollout or measured productivity gains. Sukumar said the company will track employee use, the tasks and processes employees develop, and how the tool helps them work more effectively. Uber plans to use that evaluation to guide further deployment across the business.
