IGN says the edition will work with an existing subscription or Game Time, pairing level-60 progression with new character choices and shared Legacy Points with upgrades chosen separately for each character.
Blizzard Entertainment’s World of Warcraft: Forever is scheduled to launch worldwide on November 4, according to IGN. Players will be able to access the edition with an existing World of Warcraft subscription or Game Time, without a separate subscription. IGN also says pre-purchases are open.
World of Warcraft first launched more than 20 years ago and already has Modern and Classic versions. IGN describes Forever as a third edition alongside them: it retains the original character models and spell animations, brings back the level-60 limit and slower leveling, and adds new content and a system for sharing progress across characters.
IGN reports that Forever adds new zones and more than 1,000 quests. The new playable Skyborne elves begin on Zephras Isle and can join either the Horde or Alliance, the game’s two factions. Their faction determines their racial abilities.
Skyborne characters on either side can choose Warrior, Hunter, Rogue or Druid as their class—the character’s role and set of abilities. Horde Skyborne can also become Shamans, while Alliance Skyborne can become Mages. Existing races gain new choices too: Dwarf Shaman, Undead Paladin, Human Hunter, Gnome Priest, Troll Warlock and Orc Mage, according to IGN.
The new Legacy System rewards progress across an account, IGN reports. Players earn Legacy Points through challenges such as reaching character or crafting levels, exploring the map, completing dungeon groups and attaining ranks in player-versus-player combat. Challenges can be completed with multiple characters, and the points are shared across the account.
Players spend those points separately for each character in three upgrade categories: Professions, Adventure and Resourcefulness. Reported options include better chances of gathering rare materials, recovering health and mana—the resource used for spells—from kills, and removing material requirements for class abilities.
The black, gold and green edition follows September’s sold-out preorders. Nintendo’s replenished launch-day stock also quickly sold out.

Each character can earn up to 29 Legacy Points but spend only 16. IGN explains that this lets players use the system with one character, while the shared pool encourages trying additional characters. Because upgrades are character-specific, characters on the same account can specialize differently.
After the planned November 4 launch, Blizzard promises regular updates and patches for years to come, according to IGN. Those plans include new zones, dungeons and storylines across all levels, rather than additions only for characters who have reached the level limit.
Her 16 September–October shows grossed $125.5 million and sold 539,000 tickets, setting records for revenue and attendance per performance.
